Olympic Rower Robbie Manson

There were only 11 out gay males competing in last summer's Rio Olympics – 4 from Great Britain, 3 from the Netherlands, and 1 each from Brazil, Finland, New Zealand and Tonga. Competing in his second Olympics was rower Robbie Manson (b. 1989) from New Zealand. Manson was still closeted when he competed in the London Olympics in 2012, but he came out publicly in 2014 in an interview with OutSports. Along with teammate Chris Harris, Robbie won a bronze medal in double skulls at the 2015 World Rowing Championships, held at Lake Aiguebelette, France.

Manson has an older brother who is gay, and a younger brother, Karl, who is also a rower. Brothers Karl and Robbie have competed together on Team New Zealand.
