December 5

Pacifier (just because):

Five Dances (trailer):
A new film by writer/director Alan Brown

The story follows the rocky emotional journey of 18-year old dancer Chip (Ryan Steele*) with talent to burn, who must choose between his responsibility to his broken family in the Midwest, and forging a life and career for himself. A sexual relationship between Chip and another male member of the dance company is central to the story. Shot in Manhattan last winter, the film features five of New York City's most gifted dancers acting on film for the very first time: Kimiye Corwin, Reed Luplau, Catherine Miller, Luke Murphy, and Ryan Steele; they perform the choreography of the internationally acclaimed Jonah Bokaer.

*Michigan native Ryan Steele has appeared on Broadway as Specs in the musical Newsies! and as a dancer in the recent Broadway revival of West Side Story. He eschewed a contract with a Texas Ballet Company to work on stage and screen. We wish him the best success!

Weirdest thing in his dance bag: “A piece of coal from one of the coal mines in the county where Billy Elliot takes place. All the Billy Elliot ensemble dancers in the show got one. It’s like a good luck charm now.”
