December 26

Vintage Buster Crabbe 1907-1983 (just because):

As a swimmer he won the 1932 Olympic gold medal for the 400 meters freestyle, but his career as an actor in more than 100 films is what we remember. He spent much of his on-screen time shirtless, clad in spandex and/or loin cloths – not that we’re complaining.

Trumpets and crotch shots and Sousa and discus and lances – Oh My!
Completely shirtless production number from Search for Beauty (1934). I guess I should mention that Mr. Crabbe is shown seated at a table at the 0:41 timing mark:

Did I mention that this movie also included a bare butts locker room scene –
with tan lines?

A California native, he once worked as a lifeguard in Santa Monica.

The rumor mill at the time was rife with reports that Mr. Crabbe engaged in sexual dalliances with both sexes, but that's fodder for a later post.
